The Scope
Many people struggle to maintain healthy sleep schedules and habits, often experiencing sleep issues such as insomnia that significantly impact their day-to-day health and overall quality of life. This case study explores how advanced technologies, specifically emerging AR devices, can be leveraged to positively influence sleep behaviors and everyday lifestyle patterns.

How might we help people improve their sleep quality and sleep schedule in order to support a productive and healthy lifestyle?

Soultion   
My vision is to create an advanced sleep optimization system that reimagines the wake-up experience and improves sleep quality by bridging emerging AR technology with the familiar Apple ecosystem. The goal is to redefine the sleep–wake cycle through smart technology that seamlessly adapts to users’ natural rhythms.

What is Sleep?

Circadian rhythms refers to the 24 hour clock in our brain that regulates cycles of alertness and sleepiness by responding to light changes in our environment. These insights on the light's effects are key consideration in our product.

Circadian Rhythms and Light Exposure

Sleep inertia is the groggy, disoriented state after waking that makes it hard to think or perform tasks because the brain isn’t fully alert. It typically lasts 15–30 minutes (sometimes longer) and is influenced by sleep deprivation, wake-up timing, and factors like high adenosine levels or incomplete brain activation.

To better understand the people I was designing for, I explored the daily experiences of both students and working professionals. This helped me understand their routines, challenges, and motivations, giving life to the range of users impacted by sleep issues.

Persona

Through the interviews, I uncovered patterns in their struggles. Many shared similar frustrations, whether it was restless nights, groggy mornings, or difficulty maintaining healthy sleep habits.

Pain points

Users expressed the desire for a single, seamless solution that could support them in all aspects of their sleep journey. These insights guided the design toward a product that truly feels intuitive, holistic, and accessible.
